Building Out of the Back

We talk a lot about proper positioning to build from the back and support. The following video analysis produced by Grant Heywood is one of the most detailed and accurate presentations on the topic I have seen. Please take the time to view this in its entirety if you participate in a Matrix program and wish to better understand where you should be on the pitch.

Keep in mind that much of this analysis is on 11 v 11 play and our younger groups are training and playing for 9 v 9 competition. The principle difference to keep in mind as you view the video is our number 10 serves as the 10, 8, and 6 in a 4-3-1 formation. When relating it to positional play for the 10 the depth of the number 6 is most accurate in the defensive and midfield thirds, while the 10 and/or 8 is more representative in the final third of the field.
